Gear System-Bike

Bike-Gear System for some brands
.
Gear pattern in Hero Honda bikes :

Push down on the back of the gear lever to increase gears.
Push down on the front of the gear lever to decrease gears.

In Pulsar, Yamaha (FZ, Fazer) bikes:

Push down on the front of the gear lever FROM NEUTRAL, to get to the first gear.
Push up on the front of the gear lever to get BACK TO NEUTRAL, from the first gear.
Then on (you're now riding at 20kmph or so and ready to shift up from the first gear), push up on the front of the gear lever for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears!!

On splendor or other economy bike, you need to let loose of the clutch almost fully to get the bike moving from rest and then rev the accelerator. It isn't so for Pulsar and other sport bikes where the bike starts moving even when you release the clutch only by half !
Bajaj has the same gear shift pattern as that in pulsar and avenger. They use the same 1st gear down and rest up. The neutral is in between the first and second gear but it would cause a great deal of problems in the long run. Actually bajaj hasn't changed their scooter gear shift with neutral in between the first and second in their bikes too.
Now a days most of the bikes(usually 125cc) and above have adapted the same universally accepted 1 down 4up system of gear shifting.

In these bikes u can't put into neutral while the bike is in running.

When u press the gear lever down it's first gear and lifting up puts into second gear, then 3rd 4th and 5th..6th(in case of r15 and other sports bikes)

if u press down u shifting gears down...
For Hero honda, all four gears put backside(that is by heals)
For Bajaj, front side .
For TVS , front side
90% bikes in india 100cc,125cc,135cc have 4 gears, they shift backwards as you said, few bajaj shifts front,
the bikes above 150cc comes with 5gears 1 down or front, and 4 back or up.. if you have any doubt while riding one, the gear shift pattern will be given on the tank or embossed near gear lever.. you can take a look at it once..
1 down 4 up. ( standard for 150 cc and above bikes)

Karizma ZMR:
Your gear patters is one down for first, a full click up for second, anther full click up for third, another full click up for fourth and then another full click up for fifth. One down four up.

Neutral is located between 1st and 2nd.

Skilled riders can give a half a click down from second to go to neutral. Most riders go all the way down to 1st gear and then give the lever a half a click up to go into neutral.
TVS Apache:
The gear shifting pattern in TVS Apache bikes is first gear Down andthenthe other 4 gears are up from there. (1-N-2-3-4)
Yamaha Fazer:
There are 5 speed manual transmission in Yamaha Fazer, 1-down and 4-up gear shifting pattern.
Suzuki Bikes:
·         Suzuki's sport bikes (including the GS500, the SV650, the GSX line and the Hayabusa) are six-speed bikes, so the gear shift pattern is:
6 = 5 = 4 = 3 = 2 = N = 1
