United Nations Year Theme 2016
The United Nations has designated 2016 as the
"International Year of Pulses"
The United Nations (UN) will be celebrating its 71st
foundation anniversary this October 24. Hence, October of every year is
known all over the world including the Philippines as the UN month. The
Philippines, it can be recalled, is one of the original 51 UN member-states.
In relation to
that, the UN has designated 2016 as the “International Year of Pulses”
(IYP 2016) with the following themes:
A. Food Security, Nutrition, and Innovation
B. Creating Awareness and Sustainabilty
C. Market Access
D. Productivity and Environmental Sustainability
A. Food Security, Nutrition, and Innovation

D. Productivity and Environmental Sustainability
According to a resolution passed during
the 68th UN General Assembly (A/RES/68/231),2016 Year Theme By UNO this designation aims to “create a unique
opportunity to encourage connections throughout the food chain that would
better utilize pulse-based proteins, further global production of pulses,
better utilize crop rotations, and address the challenges in the trade of
pulses.”
